Description
Three of the Northfield 5 covered bridges are within a mile of each other. Northfield Vermont has five covered bridges and the Upper Cox Brook Bridge is but one of them. These three stand within a quarter-mile of one another on Cox Brook Rd, The Upper Cox (or third covered bridge), Lower Cox covered bridge, and the Northfield Falls Covered Bridge (Station covered bridge). All of the 5 covered bridges that are maintained by the town of Northfield are painted red with green signage.
This covered bridge is one of the Northfield 5, a name I gave to the five covered bridges that reside in the township of Northfield. (Northfield falls is a municipality under the town of Northfield)
The other two out of the five covered bridges are the Slaughterhouse covered bridge and the Moseley Covered bridge (aka, Stoney brook covered bridge) are others which reside in the township of Northfield Vermont. The upper Cox bridge is similar in design to a queen post truss, the trusses are not completely covered as the others are. Also, there are large âshadedâ windows on both sides of the bridge
I have several different vantage points that I like of this bridge but heading up the road from the lower bridge and then passing through the bridge and parking on the road to the right you can go through the knee-high grasses and down to the edge of the brook. If you arrive in autumn the water will most likely be low enough to get across with tennis shoes on but if you pack knee-high waders in the trunk (and what good photographer doesnât?) You can wade across and get several that I feel are really great views of the bridge with reflections. Iâve only shot it this way in the afternoon and I havenât tried it in the early morning from this vantage point.
