Artist's Description

Mount Katahdin in the Northern woods of Maine is now Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. Welcome to the National Park Service! It was named Katahdin by the Penobscot Indians and means "The Greatest Mountain". The area around the mountain was protected by the Governor starting in the 1930s from commercial development.
