Description
Mount Katahdin in the Northern woods of Maine is now Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. Welcome to the National Park Service! We had just traveled the Gold road and came across a bridge that had an unparalleled view of the entire Mount Katahdin. Mount Katahdin is the highest mountain in Maine at 5,269 feet and is either the start or the terminus of the Appalachian Trail. It was named Katahdin by the Penobscot Indians and means "The Greatest Mountain". The area around the mountain was protected by the Governor starting in the 1930s from commercial development.
