The bleeding heart was something that was always in my mother garden. She had a few favorites but this one was one that made her happy. It's also known by it's latin name: Lamprocapnos spectabilis (formerly Dicentra spectabilis), a popular garden plant with arching sprays of pendent red and white (or pure white) flowers. It's easy to see the origin of bleeding heart's common name when you get a look at its heart-shape pink or white blooms with a protruding tip at the base of the heart.
