Artist's Description
The barracks at Fort Sewall Marblehead by Jeff Folger. Fort Sewall was established in 1644 on Gale's head which is one of the Rocky had lands along the Massachusetts coast on the Atlantic ocean. Over the years the Fort had been enlarged to include a barracks and ammunition magazine. A company of militia mustered at the Fort during the war of 1812 so it was occupied by American forces for two years. The Fort was named in honor of Judge Samuel Sewall a town benefactor Marblehead. Today Glover's Regiment during the warm months of May will bivouac here and put on displays of life at Fort Sewall in the 1700s. From Fort Sewall you can watch the Marblehead fireworks and view across the harbor Marblehead lighthouse at Chandler Hoovey Park.
