This Navigational aid was under the control of the Coast Guard until 1977 when it was decommissioned. In 1979 it was turned over to the National Park Service. This Valentine's Day morning the temperature was a balmy -9 degrees and the sun was just peeking over the wall of sea smoke on the other side of Marblehead. I thought at first that this was a low cloud bank but I was corrected that this is a bank of steam fog or Sea Smoke. I love capturing the moment when the sun's disk is visible through the cloud of the sea smoke but it is obscured enough that it doesn't blow out the image. In another moment it will begin to make the it difficult to capture the scene because the sun is so much brighter than the rest of everything is left in darkness. But each moment has it's charm and this is the time when all the sea smoke on the horizon is back lit and on the harbor the sea sm...
