Through tenacity and commitment Roger Conant was able to keep the few settlers who followed him from the failed attempt at Cape Ann (Gloucester). He worked with the Massachusetts Bay Company and even though they replaced him as the legal head of the plantation, he stayed on and devoted his life to serving Salem and the colony. In 1630 he was designated a freeman, or voting stockholder of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Born 1592 Died 1679.
