Beverly Lighthouse is officially known as Hospital Point Range Front Light. It is a range light because about 2,050 yards behind it, is the spire of the First Baptist Church on Cabot Street in Beverly Massachusetts. When ships line up the two lights, they would be in safe in mid channel.
