Description
Multiple exposures resulted in the previous explosion raining down foreward of the Friendship of Salem. The the next explosion goes off mixed with another. It was only 1.7 seconds but lucky for me they occurred quick enough to permit both sets of fireworks explosions. When shooting fireworks most locations donât have a strong foreground object to give your fireworks more than bursts of light against a black sky. In Salem, you have a chance to place the Friendship of Salem which is (usually) anchored in Salem Harbor at Derby wharf. The Friendship is a replica of a 1797 East Indiaman, trading ship.
When I chose the location I looked at where the fireworks would be launched from (the end of the jetty near Salemâs Navigational lighthouse on Derby wharf). This was shot before they built Pedricks Storehouse which is today where you see the poles sticking up in the air. So I put the ship between me and the fireworks. Picking this location turned into, one of the best places to see the Salem Fireworks go off. (In my opinion) It felt like I was watching a sea battle with the explosions of the fireworks going off above the ship and behind the mast giving silhouette to the masts and rigging. There are different angles to choose from but for me this was one of the best.
