Artist's Description

The Vermont Greenbank's hollow covered bridge is just down the road. Greenbanks Hollow was a small town in Danville Vermont by todays standards but in 1849 this was the largest business in Danville. You stand here today and see only the covered bridge (new) which the orignal was destroyed in a 1885 fire along with the rest of the town. But in its day it employed 45 workers had established a post office and gristmill and school. There were many residences near by and also the many farms in this area supplied wool from sheep herds to the woolen mill. Today the seventy-four-foot Greenbanks Hollow Bridge crosses Joe's Brook just upstream of a broken dam.
