Description
A big tom turkey struts his stuff for any female turkeys in the neighborhood. The adult wild turkey have a coppery sheen to their feathers. They have long reddish to yellow legs. The body feathers are generally blackish but as you can see here in the right light the Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) is a gorgeous bird. the light playing on his feathers shows a depth of color that is beautiful. They can be rather aggressive during the mating season so viewers and photographers should be wary of getting into their zone or they may think your are competing for one of their harem females.. In the Northeast of North America, turkeys are most profuse in hardwood timber of oak-hickory and forests of red oak, beech, cherry and white ash.
