Description
The Marblehead Illumination is a standing event each 4th of July. About an half hour before the start of the fireworks start, Glover's Regiment will fire their canons, signaling people all along the shoreline of the harbor to ignite flares that the town has passed out to them.
All the red flares spring to life at the same time and are placed just above the water ringing Marblehead Harbor with a red glow and if the night is clear the sun is just below the horizon and the sky will deepen from a light blue to a dark azure blue.
The flares contrast with red against the blue and this takes your eye around the harbor at the scene. Arrive early if you want to view this spectacular display. Local put out blankets to mark their territory early in the day. You won't be bored because the Marblehead Festival of the Arts during the days leading up to the 4th of July.
