Description
A winter storm crashes into Eastern Point Lighthouse on the coast of Massachusetts. This point of land protects both the ships at sea who traverse these waters and the long breakwater jetty protects the fishing vessels that stay in Gloucester's protected harbor during stormy weather. It's also home to a Massachusetts Audubon conservation area where migratory birds stop for rest and food during the travels up and down the Atlantic coastline. It was primarily erected to mark the harbor entrance. There is a large lighthouse station which serves as housing for U. S. Coast Guard. In 1880 the artist Winslow Homer spent a year there painting.
