Artist's Description
he Witch House of Salem is an excellent example of seventeenth-century architecture. Judge Corwin, buried in the nearby Broad Street Cemetery, purchased the structure in 1675 when he was 24 years old and lived there for more than forty years. The house remained in the Corwin family until the mid-1800s. The Witch House was nearly torn down in 1944 when the town rallied behind this last standing remnant of the witch trials of 1692 in Salem Massachusetts. Nearby Danvers which was a part of Salem also has the Rebecca Nurse Homestead. Rebecca Nurse was one of the 19 people hanged in 1692.
