Description
Marblehead Harbor is a harbor located in Marblehead, Massachusetts, 17 miles northeast of Boston. The lobster boats swing on their moorings with the direction of the ocean current. Right now its coming in and the boats are lined up pointing at Abott hall on Washington street. Morning arrives on Marblehead harbor and soon the lobstermen will be rowing out to their lobster boats. This has been going on since many of these men were kids and they had a permit for ten traps. They built up their back while pulling heavy oak lobster traps from the harbor bottom. Today they have boats and winches to do some of the work. It's a tough life working on the ocean. Marblehead is considered the birthplace of the Continental Navy, forerunner of the United States Navy, and during the war of 1812 The USS Constitution sailed into this harbor with a broken mast and the British couldn't take her because to enter the harbor they would have to come into range of the canons at Fort Sewall at the mouth of the harbor. Marblehead is steeped with the history of our nation and men sailed out of here during the golden age of trade in the colonial America through the war of independence and so on.
