Description
Cadillac Ranch is an art installation in Amarillo, Texas, USA. Just on the other side of the field is Route 66 and I-40 where people go zipping by and I only just saw these cars half buried in the dirt. I got off I-40 and back tracked on Route 66 to get to the Cadillac Ranch Here you find ten Cadillacs were buried in the dirt nose down in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels and financed by Amarillo billionaire Stanley Marsh 3. He wanted a piece of public art that would baffle the locals. Since then people make a pilgrimage there to view and perhaps add to the art installtion by painting their names on the cars. Sometimes it's a simple name and sometimes it's another form of art on top of what was there to begin with. But in a day or three, someone will come by and erase or more accurately, cover over the previous layer with a new creative layer. Empty cans of paint can be seen all over the texas landscape.
