Description
I'm sitting by a roadside pond during a gentle snow. The quiet is peaceful and the solitude is only broken by my own footsteps breaking through a crust of ice under the snow. There is a bench at the edge of the water and I brush it off and sit down for a moment to take in the scenic view before me. The woods are beautiful in a stark sort of way. The woods are quiet yet desolate; the immense trees lean out over the water with only a reflection to hold them from falling into the water. Soon the pond will be frozen over as seen by the edge of the pond. There is a layer of ice slowly forming along the edge of the pond. It will reach toward the center of the pond until the surface is enclosed and still until spring when the warming rains let the pond free from winters icy grasp.
But for now and today I sit here and listen to the snow hitting the water with a soft hiss and I assume in a day or two the surface will be a solid white coating of ice until March or April when the cycle of the seasons continues into Spring and then hopefully summer.
