Schooner Lynx Passing Whaleback Lighthouse. This replica of a Baltimore Schooner is based on a schooner of the same name that acted as a privateer during the war of 1812 between America and Britain. Now before you ask "did America employ Pirates???" A privateer is a civilian vessel that is charged to help the war effort by engaging those ships of a warring nation. They harass the merchant ships who they can go against and capture. They were charged to bring back the ship, goods, and crew intact to be auctioned off. For the Owner, Captain, and crews of these "Privateers" their only payday came when they returned to port but though dangerous, these missions could make those involved extremely rich if their luck held...
