Artist's Description
Salem Willows Arcade and amusement park. From Memorial Day to Labor day and since the 1880s, people have been flocking to "The Willows" for fun and relaxation. The Park was first the location of a hospital for smallpox and the willow trees that the park gets it's name from were planted for the enjoyment of the patients. by 1880 the location had been turned into a park and soon the amusements came. Food sellers and a hand carved carousel. Each summer kids from 5 to 90+ flock to the park for the first taste of Hobbs popcorn or fried dough. This is the first place that I enjoyed Fried dough and it is a popular stop for me and my wife.
