Artist's Description

The Salem Old Burying Point Cemetery. Also known as the Charter Street Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Salem Massachusetts. The stones go back to the founding of this country. This is the 2nd oldest established cemetery in America since Salem was the 2nd City to be established in Massachusetts that succeeded in surviving through the years. All other cities that tried to get established failed to get a foothold. So Gloucester and others that claim the position have to bow to Salem as the officially recognized city in Massachusetts. (Plymouth is No 1)
