Description
White sails billowing as a schooner sails past Whaleback lighthouse. The brick and stone lighthouse is outside Portsmouth Harbor. Nearby is Woods Island and Kittery Maine on the other side of the Piscataqua rivver and Portsmouth Harbor. Nearby is Portsmouth Harbor lighthouse which helps sailors navigate their way into the inner harbor. The lighthouse was known first as "Whales Back" when it was established in 1820. The schooner is the Lynx which was a Baltimore Privateer back in the 1800s until she was captured in the war of 1812. This is a recreation of that vessel that sails up and down the eastern seaboard letting people experience the way of life of seamen of the 19th century.
