Description
Rockport lies on the tip of Cape Ann and forms the northernmost part of Massachusetts Bay. It's from this rocky shoreline that Roger Conant tried to make a go of it in 1623. But the rocky shoreline caused him to give up and his group went south to Naumkeag which would later become Salem. This view of the outer harbor will be filled with pleasure boats in a few more weeks as the temperatures begin to rise. This view from Rockports Headlands starts on the left with the yacht club to where you can see the opening for the inner harbor and then the iconic view of Motif #1. As your eye progresses to the right you will see a few more wharves and then the shops, galleries, and eateries compete for your tourist dollar until you reach the end of Bearskin neck and a turn around area. From the the broken granite blocks complete the journey to the far right. The breakwater protects the boats in the outer harbor from the compete fury of the ocean. Today with little breeze at dawn on this March morning, its only the cold upper 30s that I worry about.
