Tulips are some of the most popular spring flowers to grow. The will show up in nurseries and greenhouses in fall and are usually planted before the first frost. They come in many colors and types and there are now over 3,000 different registered varieties of cultivated Tulips.
Every year billions of Tulips are cultivated, a majority of which are grown and exported from Holland. Tulips bloom on bulbous plants, with large, showy flowers with six petals. There are around 100 species of Tulips. Although my tulips in my yard tend to be late bloomers because they have north facing locations, Tulips can be divided into early, mid, and late season flowering Tulips. I was stationed in Germany and I visited the gardens in Das Nederland called Keukenhof. This is a fantastic garden with more than 7 million bulbs that are blooming each spring.
