I live near the ocean and nothing compares to spending a morning on Salem Harbor watching the lobstermen head out to pull their lobster pots (also known as traps). When I was 12 I did this for a local Marblehead Lobsterman. Buddy's assistant was sick so my uncle "volunteered" me. More to get rid of me for the day, more than what I might enjoy. I got up at 4:30AM and we headed outa dawns early light from Marblehead harbor. It's unknown to me being a landlubber, how he knew where all his traps were. But he went from point to point with out a map or chart to reference. He knew all the reference points in his head and the points on shore were as good as any maps. At the end of the day he paid me in cull lobsters that he couldn't sell due to the fact they were in some way damaged. But 4 lobsters in value were as good a salary even back then. Today I look on fondly but it was really hard work even with the motorized pullies to pull the traps up from the bottom. Even so that is the way of me...
