Artist's Description
Being on the ocean means "Keeping lookout in Gloucester". In this image, the Gloucester Massachusetts Fisherman is getting some help from a seagull who is probably not looking for rocky shoals but more likely his next snack. The fishermans memorial in Gloucester Massachusetts is always a big draw. The image of the fisherman at the ships wheel is one of the most iconic images of Gloucester and Massachusetts as any that I know of. hundreds of fishermen have died by going to the ocean to bring home a catch that will provide a living. The ocean is a poor mistress who far to often takes more than she gives. It was never an easy way of life albeit a dangerous one that they chose.
