Artist's Description
Being a curious harbor seal, this harbor seal pup choose July 4th to come on the beach and mingle with the Winter Island beach goers. I checked with the wildlife rescue folks and they said it is normal behavior for young harbor seals. They are used to humans and will pull themselves onto the beach to warm themselves. So beach goers sometimes get the opportunity to see them close up. These seals sometimes swim along beaches, looking at beach walkers. The harbor seals can be rather social animals but they are still wild animals and the bite of a harbor seal can be quite dangerous with a ton of bacteria in their mouths. Its always best to stand back from a seal and allow them their space.
