There is a mixture of trees in this area with Evergreen and deciduous trees blending together in the Sun has difficulty making its way through the upper canopy down to the ground to illuminate the ferns. But some of the Sun does get through especially as we get closer to autumn and the leaves start to fall. The fall colors of the Fern turn it generally to a Brown or golden color before it finishes just prior to winter's arrival. Ferns are a plant that has been with us for 300 million years they grow in many different habitats around the world. The frond of the Fern you are what we would consider to be the leaves and they may be of many different design. The seeds of ferns are really spores normally they are forming groups of four spores contain oil droplets and sometimes chlorophyll and they drop millions and sometimes billions of spores during their lifetime but very few ever landed a spot suitable for growing.
