Artist's Description
This is my rendition of the Friendship of Salem on an 1800s Salem Map. The map shows the early outline of the city of Salem before the many ponds and riverways were filled in to allow more land use. The Friendship of Salem is a replica of an East Indiaman Trader that was built originally by Enos Briggs in 1797 at Stage Point in Salem Massachusetts. The original Friendship sailed in her day, From Salem to Canton China and to points along the European Coastline. Today this new version of the Friendship is maintained by The National Park Service at Salem Maritime, National Historic Site. Salem Maritime is the first National Historic Site in the country as of 1938.
