Bass harbor lighthouse on Mount Desert Island is one of many of Maines lighthouses. It lies on the southern end of Mount Desert Island. The rocky shoreline of Maine is the perfect reason for lighthouses to exist. Many ships have been lost on New Englands jagged coastline and the only thing that saved them from a watery grave was these lighthouses. These beacons of hope in the night or the fog or the storm.
