Description
Ships would enter and leave Gloucester Harbor by passing by 10 Pound Lighthouse. The first was erected in 1821 and the current one was built in 1881. in 1863 you would then pass the Tarr and Wonson Paint Manufactory. The company was the first to invent copper based paint to prevent the fouling of the bottom of ships. Wooden ships whether commercial fishermen or warships quickly pickup Barnacles (balanus glandula) along with other marine life that stick to the bottom of ships. This company in Gloucester, MA prevented this for up to a year and is still made today.
