The Agate Bridge was formed millions of years ago when a tree fell across a river bed and was quickly buried by sediment and volcanic ash. This both oreserved it and changed it into quartz. Later on rain and river rexposed it to the elements and it was standing the test of time. but all things fall to Mother Nature and so would have this bridge but in 1917 they created a cement support to support the bridge. But even this is only a delay to the inevitable and it will fall someday and roll down the slow to the lower prarie below. The Petrified National Forest lies South and East of the Grand Canyon. We traveled down I-40 and took I-180 to the Petrified Forest road. We went North to the Ranibow Forest Lodge and explored around there and then proceeded North through the park. You arrive at the gate and it's only $1.00 to enter this National Park and then you can follow their map of turn outs as you proceed through the 27 miles to the other side of the National Park which ends at Route 4...
