Artist's Description

This is a picture of the Wayside Inn Grist Mill, located in Sudbury, Massachusetts. It was built in 1929 by Henry Ford as part of the Wayside Inn Historic Site, a tribute to early American history and industry. The mill was fully operational and used to produce flour. It was designed to resemble early American mills and became a prominent feature of the historic Wayside Inn property, which dates back to 1716.

Historical Overview:
The Wayside Inn itself is one of the oldest operating inns in the United States and has long been a site of historic significance. In the early 20th century, Henry Ford purchased the property to preserve its legacy and expand it as a "living museum" of colonial life. The gristmill was part of this expansion, intended not only for practical use but also as a tourist attraction. The mill remains a picturesque part of the property, often photographed in the fall when the surrounding trees provide a vivid backdrop of autumn colors.
