Description
The cows are in the barn at the Jenne farm in Reading Vermont. The sap buckets are on the trees and the family and friend have just collected their first supply of sap from their 150 trees. The process is one that has been going on for hundreds of years. In fact the Jenne family is a throw back to that earlier time. They don't have blue hoses running through the woods to collect the sap. They painstaking tap each tree and then they hang a sap bucket from the tap. Drop by drop it slowly fills the bucket. then on tomorrow or the next day they will drop by with a truck and dump the buckets into a drum in the truck. Repeat 150 times every day or so depending on the temps and how the sap is flowing and then the real work begins as they boil the sap down into syrup. 40 gallons of sap makes just one gallon of syrup.
