Description
The bleeding hearts are one of my favorite flowers after a rainstorm. They weather the storm well and are covered with rain drops. The stone path in our garden runs right past the bush and I lay down on a cloth and get in real close. I try to find great compositions that show the relationship. The bleeding heart was something that was always in my mothers garden. She had a few favorites but this one was one that made her happy. It's also known by it's latin name: Lamprocapnos spectabilis (formerly Dicentra spectabilis), a popular garden plant with arching sprays of pendent red and white (or pure white) flowers. It's easy to see the origin of bleeding heart's common name when you get a look at its heart-shape pink or white blooms with a protruding tip at the base of the heart.
