Description
Two seagulls stand on a rock looking out for the lighthouse. Little do they know but the Fort Pickering Lighthouse is right behind them! The lighthouses sits at the mouth of Salem harbor and is a part of three lighthouses that sea captains can line up on and when followed make their way into Salem Harbor.
Salem's harbor is a well protected harbor, shielded on three sides. After Fort Pickering was built at the mouth of the harbor along with Fort Sewall at the mouth of Marblehead harbor, neither harbor was ever taken during the revolutionary war or the war of 1812.
