Description
Annisquam Lighthouse is situated on the Annisquam River, is just around the end of the penninsula from Gloucester Harbor.
Today the February temperature was -4F to start with and is now a balmy 12F degrees. All of the rocks around the cove where Annisquam light sits are ice covered. For safety Im keeping my snowshoes on because the teeth on the bottom help me to keep my footing secure. Out on the water you can see ice flows going out on the tide and the ebb tide is moving extremely fast as we can compare the relative speed of the flows to the ice shelf which extends out 50-60 feet.
Annisquam Harbor Lighthouse, with its forty-one-foot white tower and black lantern, is the quintessential image of a New England lighthouse. . To this day Lighthouses still help keep boats from ending up on the rocks although larger vessels have high tech navigation gear to bring them into port safely. Still Lighthouses are a romantic idea that photographers love to capture at all times of the year.
