Description
Fall colors over the Flume Gorge covered bridge by Jeff Folger. I took a hike into Franconia Notch State Park. Franconia Notch State Park is located inbetween the between the high peaks of the Kinsman and Franconia mountain ranges. The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty. You can leave the visitor center and do a two mile loop which allows you to see great vistas and Covered bridges like the Flume covered bridge seen in this view. To get this at dawn though requires you to break the rules. You arrive at 6AM and hike in without going on the regular loop trail. Youe see they don't open until 9AM so if you want the great light you go in and make your way to the covered bridges and then come out through the visitor center and then pay for your entrance... To me the trees with their roots winding their way across the ground before diving into the soil are the most interesting sights here. Almost like a giant octopus's tentacles grabing ahold of the boulders and sod.
