Description
This version of the Babs covered bridge is the second one built here. The first was built in 1864 and then vandal burned it in 1973. This one was built in 1976. Its well tagged by kids and I really wish they would go back to the old way of getting out a pen knife and scratching their loved ones name in the beams, like kids had to a hundred years ago... Also they might cut off a finger and be disuaded from doing that again... :-) But if you use the brush and fall foliage to your advantage, you can obscure the overly tagged sections. It spans the river in one section. This covered bridge has a lovely rustic patina in its coloration and the Maine fall foliage is a great compliment to the bridges gray and brown colors. Beginning at the Post Office in Windham, Maine, take US-302 / ME-35 / 10TH Mountain Division Hwy / Roosevelt Trail toward ME-115 / Tandberg Trail for
0.6 miles.
Turn right onto River Rd and travel for
4.3 miles.
Turn right onto Covered Bridge Road and travel for 0.4 miles.
Arrive at or near Hurricane Road & Covered Bridge Road. The last intersection is Covered Bridge Road. If you reach Cummings Road, you've gone too far.
